Australia’s Hidden Gem: The Clyde River.
HostfullyHost Spotlight: Peter & Wendy
Over 14 years ago, Peter and Wendy purchased a holiday park on the NSW South Coast, Australia. For 13 years, they hosted guests who were either camping, caravanning, or staying in one of their eight cottages between the late, ocean, and National Park. Last year they sold it and bought a new property located right on the Clyde River, and converted their old garage to the perfect getaway for travelers. After 13 years of experience, they knew exactly what was required to give an excellent customer service.
Within an hour of putting their listing on Airbnb, Peter and Wendy had their first booking. It was during Valentine’s Day weekend and the guest wanted to surprise his girlfriend with a romantic getaway.
“Since they were our first guests, we went all out. We bought flowers, a bottle of champagne, and a box of chocolates. We wanted to make sure this was going to be a weekend they would never forget. They were supposed to arrive by mid-afternoon. We both arranged to be there for their check-in. Time passed and it was already 12PM. We waited many more hours — it was 10PM and we didn’t hear a word. ‘Time for a phone call,’ we thought.
Our guest answered straight away. He was on his way to Melbourne (a 600km journey) and wouldn’t be coming. He sounded very tearful. His girlfriend broke up with him that morning. Sad Valentine’s Day for him, however Wendy was very happy as she got a lovely bunch of flowers, some nice champagne and a box of chocolates. Airbnb? We love it. We got paid. And no cleaning!”
Their advice for beginner hosts? Go for 3 WOWS!
Wow #1: Exceptional accommodation, clean, and value add.
Wow #2: The location. Use Hostfully to showcase what can be done in your area. Make them feel like a local.
Wow #3: Your attitude. Make them feel special. Treat them as a guest not as a client.
