Give a photo or video tour of your vacation home

Don’t be afraid to show off your rental outside of the generic pictures you posted on rental listing sites! If you have a blog or social media accounts, featuring specific rooms or parts of your rental over time could make for a great photo series. If you want to step it up a notch, create a video tour of your rental property so that potential guests can get a better feel for what your home is like.

Feature guest reviews and photos

Once you’ve had a few (or a lot!) of people stay in your vacation rental, reach out to them for pictures, quotes, and feedback. Use the pictures and quotes on your listings themselves, or post on a blog/social media account as a way to engage other potential guests and seem more relatable. If you don’t have a place to post online, have your guests write sticky notes or postcards during their stay and display them on a cork board in your home for future renters to see.

Tell the world why you love renting out your home

Allow potential guests a peek at who you are through a written statement, a quick video, or a picture/quote combination. Perhaps you’ll share the story of how your home became a vacation rental, or maybe you’ll offer up the reasons why you love hosting guests. Either way, sharing something heartfelt is a great way to express your personality to future renters. And most importantly, proving you’re a good host makes someone much more likely to rent your home.

Make a promotional video about the local area

Create a short video about why you love your local area. Include seasonal events, favorite restaurants, unique local attractions, and all of the things you like about the town/city/state. If you’re not great with a camera, find an already-made video about your area online and write a description to go with it! This makes a great social media post, or a good link to include on your vacation rental listing.

Write a series of “Top 10” posts for the local area

Even easier than creating a video is writing quick “Top 10” lists about your local area. You can get a lot of content from posts like these because the possibilities are endless — top 10 date ideas, top 10 family attractions, top 10 nature adventures, etc. Share these on social media, on your rental listing, or as a series of blog posts. Include your favorite restaurants or experiences, and supplement these by searching websites like TripAdvisor for more ideas and customer reviews.

Share travel tips

If you’re a traveler yourself, create content that will draw other potential travelers to your blog/social media account/etc. If you’ve gone on family vacations, share tips on how to keep the little ones happy and busy. Maybe you’ve been on a long road trip before — offer potential guests ideas on how to keep boredom at bay.

Share money-saving tips

Hand-in-hand with sharing travel tips is offering your future renters ideas on saving money while traveling, particularly in your area. Make a list of delicious, low-budget restaurants, or share free attractions in your surrounding area. Your potential guests will appreciate the thought, and most importantly, will start to connect your vacation rental with saving money.

Offer giveaways or discounts

A great way to incentivize people to buy something is to offer discounts or giveaways. Advertise a percentage discount in the off-season, or for first time renters, or even for returning guests. If you want to up your blog/social media followers and promote awareness of your vacation rental, a “free night” giveaway is a great way to gain a lot of interest quickly.
